What is encaustic? It is an ancient painting medium made from beeswax and pigment. The wax is heated and applied in successive layers, with each layer fused using gentle heat. This process creates a luminous, dimensional surface with a depth and texture that is unique to encaustic painting. The surface has a beautiful sense of movement, translucency and depth. 

Are the paintings fragile? They are durable but the wax surface should be treated with care. The finished surface can be susceptible to scratching, gouging or abrasion, particularly during transport. For this reason, encaustic artwork should not be touched unnecessarily and care should be taken when moving or installing a piece; always wrap in paper and then bubble wrap and cardboard. Please secure the hanging wire on the back with a closed hook when hanging on the wall; if the piece falls off the wall it can chip and crack. Do not use household cleaning products or solvents on the artwork, simply wiping with a soft cloth will remove dust. 

Will it melt? No, under normal indoor conditions, an encaustic painting will not melt. However, it should be protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Avoid placing artwork near fireplaces, heating vents, radiators or in locations where temperatures can become extremely high, such as an enclosed vehicle on a hot day.
